The School Leadership (SL) Residency is a M.Ed Program offered by High Tech High Graduate School of Education. I was a full time resident in this program during the 14-15 school year. As a resident I spent the year embed in High Tech Middle Chula Vista and worked closely with the director, learning to lead through apprenticeship to a critical friend Director and applied coursework.
Feedback from Residency
Below is feedback from a survey of teachers at my residency synthesized into 4 celebrations, 2 growth areas, and a question (42Q).
4, 2, Q from HTMCV Survey, April 2015
Celebrations
- Building relationships with students and adults (checking-in with people, taking time to connect with kiddos, celebrating others’ good work)
- Listening, asking thoughtful questions and providing useful advice/feedback
- Being hands on with the work (jumping in and helping when needed)
- Knowledgeable and committed to a student-center and teacher-driven school
- Providing more critique to others
- Pro-actively gathering feedback throughout the year and tracking it more systematically (in thinking about this survey, I wish I had more concrete data to compare it to see growth!)
- How should I structure the last few months of my residency to most effectively contribute to the HTMCV community and move my own practice?
